Sitamarhi Junction is the district's terminal station on the North Eastern network, with the line running south to Muzaffarpur through Belsand and Sonbarsa and east toward Raxaul. Trains from Patna normally connect at Muzaffarpur.

The nearest airport is Darbhanga, roughly eighty kilometres away; the larger airports served from Bihar are Patna and the Nepal gateway at Bhairahawa across the border. The town is reached by road on the state and national highways that link Muzaffarpur with Raxaul, and the district's blocks are joined to it by metalled roads.

Buses run from the Sitamarhi bus stand to the blocks and to Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Patna. Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws cover the town and the short outer routes, including the run out to Dumra.

The telephone STD codes published by the district are 06226 for Sitamarhi and Belsand and 06228 for Pupri. The Collectorate at Dumra carries PIN 843301 and the town 843302.
